FGI demands restructuring tax & new jobs

The Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI) has demanded the restructuring of tax and creation of more jobs from the next Government that would be formed after the Lok Sabha polls ending on May 16.

Corporate tax contribution to the government kitty in quarter three of 2008-09 is dipped by USD 41.8 due to dismal economic scenario in which majority of industrial units faced severe pressure of demand contraction with rising rates, Shivinder Singh Chawla, the newly elected President of FGI told reporters here.

"We would seek from the Government withdrawal of heavy service taxes excise and other local levies including couple of direct and indirect taxes," Chawla said.

Whoever forms the government, it should be stable for addressing the country's issues effectively," Dilip Mehta, President of the Baroda Developers Association and former President of Baroda Hotel owners said.
