The year 2010 came and went and while it’s so much fun thinking about all the good memories from the year that has just gone by, we as gamers usually thrive on the future. Let’s face it, it’s fun getting your hands on the latest game but no matter whatever killer games one may have, one can’t help but look at what is expected to come.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was a brilliant game. As a massive Batman fan and a gamer I enjoyed it and it was arguably the best comic book video game made to date. The sequel of this game has been confirmed for this year, with its stunning new trailer released, Batman: Arkham City is among the most wanted games in 2011.

This highly anticipated sequel offers a completely new story with a star cast of classic characters and bloodthirsty villains from the Batman universe. In addition to this, the game delivers a wide range of new and improved game-play that provide players with an unforgettable gaming experience as “Dark Knight”.

Arkham City will be available for the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows- based PC and the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. It is being published by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics. The game was officially announced during 2009 Spike Video Game Awards. It is scheduled to be released in autumn 2011.

Developed by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham City is built on the foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum. After taking a cue from Batman from the first game, Arkham Asylum’s chief warden gets recognition from the mayor of Gotham City. With some investigation, Arkham Asylum is then considered as unable to contain the criminals and murderers. The solution to this problem is simple. Stick all of the villains in the worst part of Gotham, put a security wall around the perimeter and with Hugo Strange in charge, let the criminals go nuts on each other. Yet instead, all of the villains get together and form a society, to “killllll the Bat”.

This game’s environment is almost five times larger than the Arkham Asylum. Some of the new villains to face such as Professor Hugo Strange, who is the main supervillian of Arkham City and is one of Batman’s first villains, even before the Joker and Catwoman . Two-Face is also confirmed for Arkham City, and is battling Joker and other key villains as they recruit inmates to join their respective gangs. Catwoman, meanwhile, will play Batman’s love interest, and will team up with him throughout the game. Is she friend or foe? It’s unclear what Catwoman's motives really are. Other confirmed characters are Joker, Harley Quinn, Riddler, Calendar Man, Mr Freeze and Talia al Ghul.

The game will also feature more puzzles, side missions, roaming gangs for Batman to deal with, expanded Riddler challenges, and the ability for the bat to counter two attacks at once. The bat will start the game with all of his abilities and gadgets from the first game intact, and new ones like the smoke bomb, through which he can escape or use it for self-defence.

Though the dark knight had already made this greatest detective cool again, Batman: Arkham Asylum proved something else — that superhero games can actually live up to the expectations of fans and give gamers an incredible experience. But still there’s a bit of a wait before we can save the Arkham city with the help of this Caped Crusader.
