Indian Motorcycles, America's first motorcycle company, has opened bookings for the new FTR 1200 S and 1200 S Race Replica models in India with the price tag of Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh at pan India showroom respectively.
The US-based niche bike maker had recently announced the launch of the new FTR 1200 bikes globally.
Interested buyers have to pay an initial amount of Rs 2 lakh at the Indian Motorcycles 10 dealerships across the country.
The Indian Motorcycle bike range starts from Rs 10.99 lakh onwards in the country.
Deliveries of the new bikes would begin from April 2019 onwards, the company said in a statement.
Interestingly, the design of the FTR 1200 is based on the FTR 750 bike that has been winning at the American Flat Track championship series.
This is the first ever production motorcycle from Indian brand which is not an out and out cruiser. The bikes are also lighter compared to the heavyweights from Indian motorcycle.
The company will bring the FTR 1200 range to India as a CBU (completely built unit), like all other Indian models.
The FTR 1200 features an upright riding position while the trellis frame and the fact that the fuel tank sits under the seat allows for a nimble riding experience thanks to a lower centre of gravity.
Powering both bikes is a 1,203cc V-twin engine that produces 120 PS and 115 Nm of torque that is controlled by Sport, Standard and Rain ride modes and throttle response traction control. The engine also heavily uses magnesium to keep weight low. A low-inertia crankshaft helps the bike touch the red line quicker.
Suspension duties come via an inverted front fork setup and a similar rear suspension and swingarm as the FTR750 race bike. Braking on the front is handled by radially mounted dual Brembo brakes.
The Dunlop street tyres have been newly designed and feature a flat track inspired tread. The handlebar is a Protaper flat tracker aluminum handlebar to adhere to its flat tracking heritage.
