NComputing, MKCL to set up learning centres

Desktop virtualisation company NComputing has tied up with Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation (MKCL) for setting up learning centres across the state. The company has installed 10,000 thin-client systems in 1,000 learning centres operated by MKCL.

In addition, the two organisations would be computerising 5,000 additional centres across India in the next two years. The learning centres, operated by small and medium IT enterprises and educational institutions, provide community development and eGovernance services to citizens.

MKCL needed a low-cost, energy-efficient computing platform for its learning centers and chose NComputing’s X-series that enables one desktop to be shared by up to 11 students simultaneously, Vivek Sawant, MD of MKCL, said. According to NComputing, the solution costs less than Rs 4,000 per station and uses just one watt of electricity.

“We now plan to expand to another 5,000 centres in next two years,” Sawant said. According to NComputing the technology has been installed by 50,000 companies in 140 countries.
