Helping hand to drop outs from Apeejay group

The Apeejay Surrendra Group has got down to imparting basic education. And that’s not all. The group, currently engaged in tea, hospitality, shipping, retail & real estate, financial services, shipyards, logistics and knowledge parks, has identified school drop-outs as its prime target.

The group has flagged off ‘The Anand Paul Education Support Programme’, an initiative of The Paul Foundation, under Apeejay Trust. In a written communiqué to FC, Apeejay Surrendra Group chairman, Karan Paul, said, “This particular programme will address the needs of the people closest to our heart – the kids in and around Park Street, Kolkata.”

The group started its operations out of Park Street and still has its headquarters on the Park Street in the central business district of Kolkata. Officials engaged in the programme said the programme expects to enroll nearly 500 children from Park Street areas. In the first phase, 500 children will be mainstreamed into regular schools through 10 such centres by 2011.These centers have been opened in association with Cini Asha and Focus.
