Cambridge varsity to strengthen IISc ties

University of Cambridge is looking to strengthen its ties with the Bangalore-based Indian Institute

of Science (IISc) and help enhance innovation at the institute through research partnership. Alison Richard, vice-chancellor (VC) of Cambridge University, said, "We are in the exploratory mode and are looking to see what we can do to foster our relationship with IISc.”

"Constant stream of research partnerships are happening thereby helping reverse the brain drain in India. Instead, the idea is to create brain-circulation, which will lead to retention of human capital in the nation and help create a talent pool who will invest their skills, knowledge and resources on India," she said.

Speaking at the UK Science in India lecture series at IISc, the VC pointed out that as UK universities increase their involvement in India, she anticipates a whole array of 'best fits' between the ambitions of UK universities on one hand and the opportunities in India. According to Richard, India is a fast evolving into an attractive destination for western academic experts.
