Eco meet to bridge gap between developed and developing world

An upcoming economies forum meet which will be attended by India will try to close the gap on the issue of climate change between the developed and developing countries, the Obama Administration has said.

The next round of Major Economies Forum will be hosted by the US over the weekend. Among the major economies, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the EU, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, the UK and the US are part of the forum.

"Clearly, there is still a gap between the views of the developing and developed world, and we're going to see if we can, through the course of this discussion, narrow that down," the Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, P J Crowley, said.

The two-day meeting at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department begins Sunday.

Both the Special US Envoy on Climate Change, Todd Stern, and the Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs, Michael Froman, will lead this effort, he said.

"We are going to see if we can continue our dialogue among major developed and developing economies to make progress in meeting our objectives on climate change and the Clean Energy Challenge," Crowley said.
