Japanese two-wheeler maker Yamaha is setting up a separate company for selling its products in India as it looks to increase sales here.

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) said the separate sales and marketing vertical - Yamaha Motor India Sales (YMIS) - will be responsible for pushing sales and marketing initiatives.

"Yamaha sees great potential in the Indian market and this vertical would aim at connecting with a larger customer base with innovative marketing strategies," the company said in a statement.

The new vertical will be lead by Masaki Asano, who will now be the Managing Director of YMIS. He would be assisted by Jun Nakata as Director with Roy Kurian as Sales & Marketing Group Head, Ravinder Singh as Strategy Planning Group Head and Takehiko Yamazaki as Parts Operation Group Head, it added.

Commenting on the development, Asano said: "The restructuring will help us to intensify our marketing effort. It is done envisaging our emergence as a market leader in time to come."

The company sold 29,785 units in the domestic market in January as against 26,300 units in the same month of last year, a growth of 13.2 per cent.
