US BPO firm buys Adventity for Rs 250 cr

US-headquartered business process outsoursing (BPO) company Sutherland Global Services has acquired Mumbai-based Adventity Global Services in an all-cash deal. The buyout will extend Sutherland’s footprint to the Asian, African and West Asian markets.

Dilip Vellodi, chairman and chief executive officer of Sutherland, said, “We combine back-office and customer facing services to drive productivity and deliver results for our clients. The offerings and approach at Adventity completely align with our strategic direction of expanding our presence in key verticals through platform-based integrated solutions.”

Adventity’s entire senior leadership has been absorbed into the company and the integration process has already started, he added. Though Vellodi refused to divulge the financial details of the deal, reliable sources confirmed that the size of the deal is estimated at Rs 250 crore.

With over 2,500 employees, Adventity has operations in New York, Houston, Dubai, Mumbai and Chennai. It offers research and analytical services to banking and financial institutions and airlines and travel industries. The company raised $20 million capital (about Rs 90 crore) in 2007 from an investor group led by Norwest Venture Partners.

“The global BPO segment is a $125 billion market with over 65 per cent business coming from USA, 25 per cent from UK and Europe and the rest from Asia and Africa. But, the Asian and African markets are growing at a healthy rate. The acquisition of Adventity will extend our service capabilities and broaden the company’s marquee client base,” Vellodi said.

Headquartered in Rochester in New York, Sutherland employs about 26,000 professionals across 25 delivery centres in the US, Canada, Mexico, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Bulgaria, the UK and India. “We are planning to expand in Kochi, Chennai and set up two more centres in the Philippines,” Vellodi said.
