UFX launches home entertainment service
Jan 31 2012 , Chennai
One of the UFX group’s ventures is Southern Digital Screenz India, the South Indian franchisee of the digital cinema company UFO Moviez. An extension of UFX’s digital initiatives is EmaginE, which is an on-demand home entertainment service.
A small access device called Ebox along with a monitor and broadband connection provides users the features of TV, computer, movie screen, education and many more bundled into one. While EmaginE customers can have access to a large library of movies across 36 languages, they can have the privilege of watching new films on the very first day. “We are talking to almost all the major producers’ councils in the country to let us ‘release’ films through the service. The Tamil Nadu Producers’ Council has accepted EmaginE as an exhibition platform,” said Usman Fayaz, chairman of UFX Ventures.
“Rights of movies will remain with the producers. Movies in our library will cost between Rs 50 and Rs 100 per view.”
Over 150 films are released every year in Tamil. Close to 130 of them are of small budgets and hardly manage to find theatres for release. EmaginE would help producers to overcome these issues, Fayaz said.
