Big brands such as Gucci, DKNY, Louis Vuitton and others are launching bags in big shapes and sizes as they’ve realised that with changing lifestyles, men too feel the need for bags that are high on style quotient yet can accomodate their expanding lifestyles.

Designer Nikhil (from Shantanu and Nikhil label) who carries a paisley printed big bag thinks the trend is in keeping with the new-age man who is always on the go and has varied interests. Nowadays, everyone wants to carry their life with them and men are no exceptions, says Jai (from ParveshJai). After all, men have become more fashionable, with male cosmetics and styling products, and would like to carry their kit as well. So, they want their bag to be able to carry the world.

For men, the right ‘big bag’ is essential as it could be the difference between looking great or bad. Designer Rajvi Mohan suggests something masculine in shapes such as a duffel, long and barrel-like or a zipped extra-large messenger with a leather and canvas finish to make it appear manly. Elements like zips and big metal details would also add to the look.

Today’s contemporary male is carrying far more essentials to work than before. Laptops, camera, cell phone, files and such that are now part of a professional executive’s daily needs. Da Milano’s managing director Sahil Malik, says “Frequent over night business trips are far more common now. The bags are crafted from full grain Italian leather and ostrich, snake and crocodile print leathers in funky colours ranging from mustard, burgundy, olive, white and blue to tones of black and brown.

Ideally suited for the contemporary professional male who wants to make an individual style statement, these bags make for the perfect wardrobe accessory. According to Sumya Mathur, general manager, Ministry of Fashion, “The bags are high on functionality with expandable features with a pocket applied to the exterior of handy shoulder bags”. In python skin and patented leather, these bags are an apt combination of comfort and style.
