demand decline in western nations and buoyant Indian economy are driving companies in that country to explore business potential here.

“India, a priority market for Taiwan, imported $30 billion worth of items from Taiwan in 2008, up 28.4 per cent over previous year. This was the second highest growth among Taiwan's overseas markets for its major items including electrical machinery and home appliances, machinery, plastic products and steel,” according to Taiwan-based China Economic News Service.

A number of Taiwanese firms will be showcasing their products and exploring Indian business opportunities at the third edition of Taitronics India 2009 to be held in Chennai during September 11-13, underscoring Taiwan's three strong areas of electronics, machinery, and auto parts. Taiwanese firms will be looking for potential Indian partners to develop market for their products here.

“The outstanding performance of the Indian economy over the past few months has made Taiwanese manufacturers seek business opportunities through this event. The fair will focus on electronics, machinery, auto parts, hardware and tools,” said Wayne W Wu, deputy chairman of the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC), organisers of the event in partnership with Tamil Nadu government and CII.

Tamil Nadu has been attracting larger investments from Taiwanese firms than other states in the country. The state has seen investments of over $500 million from Taiwanese firms. Electronic component manufacturers such as Foxconn, Wintek and Feng Tay, suppliers of shoes to Nike, have set up large manufacturing units near Chennai. Taitronics India 2009 will see over 180 Taiwanese companies display their businesses and products.
