Sony India targets 20 per cent of notebook market

Consumer electronics maker Sony India is targetting at 20 per cent market share in notebook computer segment in the country by the fiscal-end.

"Our present market share in the notebook segment is 12 per cent. We want to take it to 20 per cent by the end of fiscal 2010," Sachin Thapar, Division Head IT, gaming and mobile business of Sony India, said here today.

The growth would translate into 1.8 lakh to two lakh units, he said.

Launching the latest VaioX notebook here today, Thapar said that the notebook market in India was growing at a rate of 12 per cent per annum.

Sony India was expecting that the segment would grow by 30 per cent during the financial year 2010-11.

Thapar said the company would also open 300 more outlets in addition to the existing 1,000 stores spread across the country.
