of the embattled company, which, from June 1, would have representatives from Tech Mahindra, would soon decide on a new name for it to shrug off the baggage of the fraud perpetrated by its founder B Ramalinga Raju.

Talk of Satyam’s name being changed was in the air even before Tech Mahindra picked up a stake in the company. But the immediate trigger for this is the demand made by certain customers who do not want to be seen to be associated with a company whose name was involved with the biggest corporate scam in India’s history.

“During the meetings held by Tech Mahindra executives with Satyam’s clients, some of the clients seemed to be apprehensive of Satyam’s negative image and its impact on their business. Hence, they requested the executives to consider renaming the company,” a person close to the development said. “A decision in this regard is expected by the first week of June. The whole exercise should be completed by June 19.”

Along with the name, even the logo of the company would undergo a change, the person says.

The board has been in touch with consultants and company insiders regarding the decision about the re-branding. “Right now, several different combinations of the words ‘Mahindra’ and ‘Satyam’ are under consideration,” the person says.

Many of the Mahindra group bigwigs are trying to convince Satyam’s clients to stay with the company.
