PepsiCo launches Lay's Baked, to expand health portfolio

major PepsiCo today introduced a premium range of potato chips, under Lay's brand, which it claims has 50 per cent less fat than its existing fried products.

Launching 'Lay's Baked' range of chips with special target on young women, the company said it will continue to expand its portfolio in the health food segment in future as well.

"With Lay's Baked, we are trying to expand our health portfolio. It is part of our transformation as a company to focus on healthy products. It is our continuous effort to expand in the health space," PepsiCo India Marketing Director (Foods) Vidur Vyas told reporters here.

Talking about the new product which was launched in three flavours -- Original Salted, Cream Herb and Onion and Sunkissed Tomato, the company said the new range will be sold in top 60 cities and will initially focus in the urban areas.

"The taste of the new range will be slightly different. However, it has more health benefits as it contains 50 per cent less fat," he said.

The new range will be available in two pack sizes priced at Rs 15 and Rs 30. Its existing Lay's potato chips are sold at the price range of between Rs 5 and Rs 20.

Under the health food portfolio, the company sells breakfast cereals under 'Quaker' brand apart from juice brands like Tropicana 100 per cent, Gatorade. Besides, it also sells other brands like Pepsi, Kurkure, Nimbooz and Aliva.
