791.05 crore for the quarter ended June, 2011.

The company had reported a net profit of Rs 537.42 crore during the same period last fiscal.

NHPC which currently generates 5,295 mw of power plans to raise this capacity to over 6,000 MW by the end of this fiscal.

"We will add 723 MW by the end of this fiscal," NHPC Chairman and Managing Director A B L Srivastava told reporters here.

Sales turnover grew 40 pc to Rs 1,431.41 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 1,019.71 cr in the year-ago period.
