Android is an open-source operating system for mobiles and wireless devices that was developed by Google and allows developers to design applications independent of the handset type.

"We are taking the Android experience to a whole new level in India with the launch of our two smartphones," Motorola said in a statement.

"With this, Motorola has taken yet another step towards broadening the horizons for consumers to create and consume media on-the-go," it added.

Milestone XT720 features a 3.7-inch display providing high definition (HD) video experience and has eight megapixel (MP) camera with Xenon flash and expandable memory up to 32GB.

Backflip has a 3.1-inch HVGA screen, QWERTY keyboard and a reverse-flip design that makes it easier to view videos, music and photos. It is a 3G handset, WiFi capability and touch screen.

The handsets are preloaded with lifetime free access to voice-guided MapmyIndia maps of 401 cities.
