Cyrus Mistry, the newly appointed deputy chairman of Tata Sons, is expected to make his first public appearance at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi next month. Mistry will be accompanying Ratan N Tata, chairman of Tata group, who is also the chairman of Tata Motors.

An auto industry official in the know said Mistry, who is also fond of cars like incumbent chairman Ratan N Tata, would be present at the Delhi Auto Expo. Tata, who is a known auto buff, has attended the entire 10 auto expos held in the national capital earlier. The mega automobile sector event, which takes place every two years, will be held at Pragati Maidan from January 7 to 11.

A Tata Motors spokes­person declined to comment on Mistry’s presence at Auto Expo and said officials attending the event will be finalised next month.

Mistry has been on board of Tata Sons since 2006, the holding firm of Tata group of companies, and was appointed deputy chairman of the company on November 23. An analyst with foreign brokerage, who did not wish to be named said, “As said by Tata, Mistry would be given exposure to all the sectors. Auto Expo is biggest event to get exposure to from the perspective of Tata Motors, which includes Jaguar and Land Rover and the Indian automobile sector.”
