Lupin launches generic birth control drug in US

birth control chewable tablets, in the US market.

It's US-based subsidiary Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc has launched the generic version of Warner Chilcott's Femcon Fe Chewable tablets in strengths of 0.4mg/35mcg, the company said in a statement.

Commenting on the launch, Lupin Group President Nilesh Gupta said: "We are very pleased to commercialise the authorised generic for Femcon. Consumers can be assured they are receiving the same product they have been accustomed to at an affordable price".

Femcon Fe (norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol, chewable and ferrous fumarate) is low-dose chewable, birth control tablet that can also be taken with liquid, the company said.

Shares of Lupin were trading at Rs 465.70 on the BSE in afternoon trade, up 2 per cent from its previous close.
