IRB Infra looks for business outside Maharashtra

IRB Infrastructure, India’s largest toll road operator, plans to venture into areas out of Maharashtra for projects based on a build-operate-and-transfer (BOT) basis. The company has filed for request for qualifications (RFQs) for projects worth Rs 1,852 crore in Rajasthan and Gujarat for the improvement and widening of roads and modernisation of border check posts.

According to company presentation at an analyst meet, projects worth Rs 1,352 crore are under RFQ stage with the Gujarat State Road Development Corp (GSRDC) to improve and widen the Bhuj-Bhachau Road and the Nakhatrana–Dayapar–Panendro Road, and four-laning of Sarkhej–Vataman– Bhavnagar Road on a BOT basis.

In Rajasthan, the company plans to go for the modernisation and computerisation of border check posts at 13 locations for Rs 500 crore, out of its total Rs 15,186 crore projects under RFQ stage.

Apart from these projects, the company has close to Rs 13,050 crore projects under the request for proposal (RFP) stage under various National Highway Authority projects, Maharashtra State Road Development Corp (MSRDC) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corp (MIDC) projects.

IRB as of now has orders worth Rs 5,900 crore under BOT projects in operations and maintenance phase, funded projects and under engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts in ongoing BOT projects.

“The company has Rs 3,500 crore of orders to execute over the next two years, while its share in the golden quadrilateral as of now is 7.56 per cent and would increase to 12 per cent after additional 600 kilometers get added to company’s portfolio by next year,” said Virendra D Mhaiskar, chairman and managing director, IRB Infrastructure.
