its premium sedan 'Sonata' from its home market as well as the US to rectify a door lock problem, but the move will not have any impact in India.

"Since the launch of the Sonata in Korea last September, Hyundai Motor discovered a mechanical problem with its front door latches which, in very rare instances, will not close properly," the company said in a statement.

The company is recalling the vehicles "voluntarily" after "a handful" of customers complained about the defect, it said.

When contacted, a spokesperson from the company's Indian subsidiary Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said the recall will not have any effect here.

"This will not impact the sales of Sonata in India ...as in India (only) the Sonata Transform is sold," the official said, adding the recall is for the new YF Sonata sold in the US and South Korea.

As part of the recall in select global markets, Hyundai has fitted modified parts to some of its Korean and the US production models in order to avoid a possible occurrence of the problem, the company said.

"The recall will affect YF Sonatas produced in Korea until December 6 (approximately 46,000 units) and those produced at HMS (Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama) and sold to customers until February 16 (approximately 1,300 units)," the statement said.
