The company sold 9,984 units in the same month last year, General Motors India said in a statement.

"The sales were not on the expected lines as the market continues to be sluggish. High interest rates, a hike in fuel prices, commodity prices, growing inflation and negative market sentiments continue to put lot of pressure on the automobile market," GM India Vice-President P Balendran said.

The company sold 1,202 units of small car Spark, 4,440 units of hatchback Beat, 71 units of entry-level sedan Aveo, 191 units of mid-sized sedan Optra and 553 units of luxury sedan Cruze last month.

The company also sold 1,750 units of multi-purpose vehicle Tavera and 34 units of sports utility vehicle Captiva during the month.
