Global crisis no threat to BPO firms

HINDUJA Global Solutions (HGS) plans to expand in different geographies of the world. The company is present n North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. It is now also planning to enter in China too.

The company aims to achieve 25 percent growth in revenue his year. In an interview with S Ronendra Singh, global chief executive officer, HGS, Partha DeSarkar amplified the company's plans. Excerpts:

How do you see the impact of global crisis in the BPO sector? How has the impact been on HGS?

While people are concerned about what's happening in macro-economic situations around the world, my view is that it does not really affect the industry because it s the government performance that is under the scanner. Comapanies' performance is better than t ever was. It is the banks and governments that are in trouble not the companies. Our client base is healthy. They are doing well and once they are in good shape we are n good shape too.

So what kind of expansions are you looking at?

We are, presently, expanding in Europe -Rome, Paris and Notre Dame. These three sites will be operational by the end of this year. We have just opened a site in Hamburg.

We are also opening our fourth site in Philippines and the third centre in Manila. Also, in India, we have expanded in Siliguri and Delhi.

You have recently acquired two companies ­ Canada-based OnLine Support and HCCA Business Services from 3i Infotech early this month. What kind of synergies do you expect out of these deals?

The Canadian acquisition got us 10 centres and HCCA five. On the leadership part, for every acquisition, we make sure it continues.

Historically, that is what we have done. There is no consolidation as they are in different lines of business. We will benefit out of these deals because we have entered into areas like human resource, media, telecom, technology and banking, financial services and insurance through these deals.

Many companies in this sector have entered China. Do you have any plans for China?

We wanted to enter in China for a long time now. We are close to a deal and we have got a partner already.

We are planning business with them. I am hopeful that by the end of this financial year, we will be able to set up a centre in China. We will be there for domestic market based on our voice services. We would like to build a 1,000 seats centre that typically means an investment of $2-3 million. But, it is difficult to say anything concrete about investment right now. This is just an indicative figure.

How about expansion in other geographies?

We are looking at all geographies and investment is something that is not an issue because we have $130 million in cash to deploy for acquisitions and new deals. Plus, there are enough banks that are ready to finance us.

Any hiring plans in near future?

Hiring is an on-going process. We will be hiring about 3,000 people by end of this financial year globally. Currently, we have around 22,500 employees across centres around world.
