institutes in Germany, has teamed up with the West Bengal government-run Roopkala Kendro for regular exchanges of students, curriculum and technology. Roopkala Kendro at Salt Lake is a Film and Social Communication Institution set up as an Indo-Italian Project formed out of a technical cooperation programme between the governments of India and Italy.

The memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed on Friday between Nils Christian Grannemann, Head of International Office, Hamburg Media School and the Principal Secretary, Information and Cultural Affairs department. Grannemann was part of a 16-member high level business delegation from Hamburg, Germany led by Nikolas Hill, State Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media, Hamburg.

Hill later told Financial Chronicle that this was just the beginning and they were keen on extending this association to various other areas including joint production of films, television serials, audio-visual contents and so on. It may be mentioned that Roopkala Kendro has an Academic Wing, a Production Wing and a Dissemination Wing.

“We always knew Kolkata to be the cultural capital of India and we think it still is. We are therefore keen on a meaningful exchange of Kolkata’s creative talent pool and our technological advancement. If we can marry the two, it would yield excellent result,” said Hill.
