General Motors India May sales up 1.3%

General Motors India today reported 1.3 per cent increase in sales in May, 2011 at 8,329 as compared to the same month last year.

The company had recorded sales of 8,225 units in May last year, General Motors India Vice-President P Balendran said.

Commenting on the performance Balendran said: "Given the hike in interest rates, fuel prices, commodity prices, inflation, etc, we expect the market to remain depressed in the coming months as well".

During May, 2011, the company sold 3,023 units of small car Spark, 2,144 units of hatchback Beat, 135 units of premium hatchback UVA, 218 units of entry level sedan Aveo, 240 units of mid-sized sedan Optra and 659 units of luxury sedan Cruze.

The company also sold 1,767 units of multi-purpose vehicle Tavera and 143 units of sports utility vehicle Captiva, Balendran said.
