its net profit at Rs 10,726 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2009 on higher sales. The country’s largest power equipment maker’s net profit during the corresponding period last year stood at Rs 7,906 crore.

The company’s net sales grew 18 per cent to Rs 71,003 crore during the three months against Rs 60,223 crore in the same period last year, an official statement said.

Total income increased to Rs 7,422.51 crore from Rs 6,328.55 crore for same quarter last year.

Bhel said its outstanding order book position stood

at Rs 1,34,000 crore at the end of the third quarter. It declared an interim dividend of Rs 11 per share on Thursday.

Bhel targets to increase its manufacturing capacity to 20,000 mw by 2012 from the present 10,000 mw per annum. The company is in the process of augmenting its capacity to 15,000 mw per annum in the first phase.

It is also upgrading technology base from sub-critical sets to supercritical sets of 660-800 mw and above.
