Aspri Spirits to bring global brands to India

Aspri Spirits, an importer and distributor of premium international wines and spirits, is planning to bring in several international brands in India from April onwards this year.

The company without divulging the names of the brands said that it would add Spanish wines and brown spirits or whiskey to its brand portfolio. It is also looking to tie-up with a major liqueur manufacturer in 2010.

“We are in final talks with four-five major international companies for distributions of several of their brands in India,” said Arun Kumar, director of Aspri Spirits. “These brands will be introduced in the country from April onwards,” he added.

Aspri has introduced the likes of Roberto Cavalli vodka & wine - Tenuta degli Dei from Italy, Ceretto wines from Italy, Obikwa, South Africa and Champagne Lombard from the champagne region of France. The company distributes 180 brands in India including Beam Global spirits and wines, Campari, Jose Cuervo Tequila, Berry Brothers and Rudd whiskies, De Bortoli wines Australia, Diageo India - wines and beer, MountEverest, and SAB Miller-Fosters.

The firm sells about 150,000 cases across categories and expects to touch 200,000 sale volumes by March 2011. “The liquor market in India is very fluid and dynamic at this stage and a lot is dependant on tourism and currency upswing,” Kumar said. “Last year has been disastrous due to the market meltdown and Mumbai terror attack. Now the market is gradually reviving and looking positive. If this continues, we can expect business to surge.”

Aspri is also looking to expand its presence in India. The company, which is present in about 19 states currently, will set up shop in Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Chattisgarh. It also intends to introduce its own brand in the course of time.
