Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland today said it has bagged an order worth $10.5 million from the Honduras Armed Forces for 139 vehicles. "This order marks our foray into Latin America which has been one of our target markets," Ashok Leyland managing director R Seshasayee said in a statement. The shipment of the vehicles will start from March 2009, the company said.

These vehicles will augment the transport resources of HAF to carry out key poverty eradication programmes and for other humanitarian purposes and the tender is financed under an EXIM Bank of India line of credit, it added. Ashok Leyland has been contracted to supply a range of vehicles, including 4x4 Stallion trucks, 4x4 Topchi trucks, 4930 Tractor and Falcon Long Bus (both a/c and non versions) and all the vehicles will be left hand drives, it added. The company said the Stallion 4x4 and Stallion 6x6 have been approved by the Royal Thai Army following the trials and an initial lot of 10 Stallion 6x6 vehicles have already been supplied.

Ashok Leyland also supplies logistics vehicles to the Indian Army and over 50,000 vehicles are in use.
