General Motors showcases two new vehicles

General Motors (GM) today unveiled two new vehicles under Chevrolet brands that will be launched later this year in India.

The Chevrolet Sail (premium hatchback) and Chevrolet MPV Concept are the first two products from GM's joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC).

"The MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) will be launched in India by the end of this year and the hatchback will be commercially rolled out by June-July this year," General Motors India Vice President Corporate Affairs P Balendran said at the ongoing 11th Auto Expo here.

He said both the models would be launched in both petrol and diesel variants and would be competitively priced.

"The engines for the new cars would be manufactured at our plant in Talegaon near Pune," Balendran said.

The company has another plant at Halol in Gujarat."The plant at Halol currently has a capacity to produce 85,000 units and it is being expanded to one lakh ten thousand units," Balendran said.

When asked if the GM is planning to expand capacity of its Talegaon plant he said: "We would consider expanding that plant but it will depend on market conditions."

On the first of the Auto Show, GM showcased two latest variants of multi-utility vehicles - Chevrolet Tavera Neo3 and Chevrolet Captiva 2.2 AT.

"In this year we plan to launch another new version of one of our cars," he added.
