Tata’s Rajiv Dube mulls M&M option

The man responsible for the resurgence of the Indica hatchback and the success of the Indigo Manza — Rajiv Dube, president of passenger car business unit at Tata Motors — has resigned. He is expected to firm up his future plans in the next four-six weeks.

The company said in statement that Dube has communicated his decision to resign. “His request has been accepted,” the statement added. “Dube has played an instrumental role in the growth of the company’s passenger car business, since the formation of the division in 1998,” the company said.

“I am planning to do something on a wider canvas. I have 3-4 options and would firm up one in the next four to six weeks,” Dube told FC.

There is speculation that Dube is expected to move to Tata Motors’ rival — Mahindra and Mahindra and help it re-enter the passenger car market, after it failed to make a mark with the Logan. “I would not like to comment on this,” said Dube.

Dube was one of the contenders for the post of managing director when previous incumbent Ravi Kant was due to retire. While Kant was elevated to the role of vice-chairman, Dube’s counterpart Prakash M Telang, who ran the commercial vehicle business of the firm, was anointed MD — India operations.

Dube denied resigning over major differences with the new MD and group CEO, Carl-Peter Forster or any other senior management personnel. “Forster assumed charge of the company just a few days ago. There is no question of having differences with him,” he said.
