placements this year. From better fit of desired job profiles to offers made by corporates, along with salary packages seeing a considerable jump over last year, the placement season at other top 10 B-schools, too, was anything but lacklustre.

Pune-based Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM) saw 157 offers made to students on Day Zero, an increase of 20 per cent over last year. Some 107 companies participated in the placement season with prominent recruiters being Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Services, Nomura Services, Deloitte, Coca-Cola India, Pepsi and Citibank. International offers were made to eight students.

Mahak Mittal, placement coordinator at SIBM Pune said, "The number of offers made this year was similar to 2007-08 levels and we also witnessed an increase of 15 per cent in salary levels." Highest domestic salary was about Rs 15 lakh per annum, while the average salary was about Rs 9.25 lakh.

Similarly, Delhi-based Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) also witnessed over 50 per cent rise in its average salary over the previous year. The highest domestic salary was Rs 13.08 lakh, while the highest international salary offered by Olam International was $150,000. “This year new benchmarks have been created on many fronts, be it foreign placements or the average salary offered to students,” said Munish Bhargava, corporate & placement advisor at IIFT.

Firms that made offers to IIFT students included Cognizant Business Consulting, Mahindra & Mahindra, Johnson & Johnson Medical Systems, Tata Steel, Reckitt Benckiser, Colgate Palmolive, Essar, Tata Motors, Louis Dreyfus, ICICI Securities and Wipro amongst others.

The scene was same at the Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), Chennai where 107 students of the total 112 got placed in firms such as Citi, Deloitte, Vedanta, Murugappa group, TESCO and TCS.

The placement process is still going on at LIBA. Jayaram K Iyer, professor and spokesperson of LIBA said, “Compared to last year the current year witnessed quicker off take of students.”

M R Suresh, head – placements at SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysore said in many cases companies customised the job profiles based on experience of the students. Here, too, the placement process is on with about 90 per cent of its batch being placed already.
