BSE’s Srinivasan back in US to join CFTC

Sayee Srinivasan, who was driving Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) strategy in activating its equity derivatives segment, is returning to US after two and a half years with Asia’s oldest exchange as its head of product strategy.

Srinivasan is taking up a regulatory position at Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in Washington DC, he told Financial Chronicle.

Srinivasan joined BSE on July 1, 2009, from Chicago Merchantile Exchange (CME) Group where he was director of Asian product and market development. He has over 10 years experience in developing products across multiple asset classes including equities, interest rates and corporate bonds. Under his strategy, BSE was able to unveil various strategies including the liquidity enhancement scheme which has resulted in the equity derivatives segment clocking over Rs 3,000 crore of turnover on a consistent basis. Now, the equity derivatives on BSE are higher than its cash segment, where the turnover is just over Rs 2,000 crore.

The BSE equity derivatives turnover however is still very low compared to rival NSE’s average turnover of nearly Rs 1 lakh crore in its futures and options (F&O) segment.
