Hard work pays

In this era of strong ambitions and aspirations, there are many youngsters who prefer the short cut to success without putting in the required physical and mental effort. But, as business leader Charles Lazarus has said, “Hard work is the key to success, so work diligently on any project you undertake. If you truly want to be successful, be prepared to give up your leisure time and work past 5 pm, even on weekends. You must have faith and confidence in yourself. If you come up with a new idea that you believe in, don’t allow other people to discourage you from pursuing it”.
A few days ago, I visited an old friend’s house after many years. When we were in school he used to be a below average student and had a devil-may-care attitude toward academicsand life.
So, when I walked into his home, I was surprised to his cupboard lined up with trophies that he had won during his college days. I was more shocked when his parents told me that he had topped the university.
Right now he is working with a reputed IT company and is fetching a handsome salary.
Perplexed about this sea change in my friend, I asked his parents what the secret behind his transformation was. They smiled and said, “A teacher, who he looked up to, dinned into him that there was no substitute for hard work. He was so inspired and motivated by her teaching that he shunned all the comforts that he was running after. Soon enough, he put his heart and soul into studies and not only became a good student but also a good human being. Today, whatever he has achieved is because of hard work.”
I came back thinking that all a person, who many people may have written off, needs is the right mix of motivation and inspiration to find his or her true worth, followed by hard work, of course.
