At the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the rupee was quoted 11 paise higher at 46.08 a dollar, the highest since June 28, in early trade. The rupee had closed 3 paise lower at 46.19/20 against the dollar yesterday.
Dealers said capital inflows by foreign funds into equities supported the rupee sentiment.
FIIs made a net investment of about Rs 860 crore in stocks yesterday, according to the SEBI data.
The dollar weakened against a basket of major currencies yesterday, which also supported rupee, they added.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex rose by 33.49 points, or 0.18 per cent to 18,206.32 points in the opening trade today.
