BoM eyes Rs 100,000 cr business by March ’10

Bank of Maharashtra, a leading public sector lender, plans to open at least 75 new branches to the existing tally of 1,446 branches in India, top officials said.

“We want to add a minimum of 75 new branches to reach a total of 1,521 branches by September 16, 2010 to celebrate the 75th year of the Pune-headquartered bank,” Allen CA Pereira, chairman and managing director, Bank of Maharashtra, told Financial Chronicle.

The bank also plans to install 75 new ATMs, he added. At present, it has 345 ATMs and its cards can be used across ATM of any bank and point of sale terminal in the country and abroad.

Pereira said the bank had targeted a total business of Rs 110,000 crore and all branches had been given targets to achieve the mark before the platinum jubilee year on September 16. MG Sanghvi, executive director, Bank of Maharashtra, said till December 31, 2009, the bank did a total business of Rs 95,000 crore.

“We are targeting a business of Rs 100,000 crore by March 2010,” he added.

As on date, the bank has deposits worth Rs 55,000 crore and advances of

Rs 45,000 crore. The bank has 13 million customers spread across 22 states and two union territories.

Pereira said the bank had received licences from the Reserve Bank of India to open 86 new branches in the country.

He said Maharashtra will lead with 16 new branches, Gujarat 15, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh eight each, Madhya Pradesh seven and Andra Pradesh, Punjab, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with three each.
