Kiruba Shankar, the famous Indian blogger took the stage right after Mahesh. They were both talking about marketing the start-up. Kiruba's approach was "Blogging", naturally. He is one of India's better known bloggers and even lectures at yours truly's alma mater- the Asian College of Journalism.
He took the conference into unconference mode, by opening with the statement- The collective knowledge of the audience will always be more than that of the speaker's.
He then asked for a show of hands of bloggers, then entrepreneurs, then entrepreneurs that blog about their own venture. The last had the lowest show of hands, but this suited him nicely.
He then got a bunch of blogging entrepreneurs to talk about how blogging had helped their venture. He brought out a story of an orthopedic in Chennai that was used YouTube to show his surgical procedures. Soon his patient mix showed that he had 80% of his audience coming from abroad. The doctor soon turned his simple clinic into a full-blown medical tourism organisation. Post surgery, he would pack his patients off to Goa and Kerala in fancy resorts to recuperate.
He then spoke about an example of a friend who was offered many different jobs simply through his blog. He never sent his resume out. Instead HR departments found him through his blog. For more on this, please view the attached video on mydigitalfc.com , where he talks about how you can get a job, using your blog as a CV.
"Just start blogging and keep writing. Forget about the statistics. Don't even look at it. Just don't stop. Soon you will find that you will gain a following."
